On this day in the United States, over 3,000 people lost their lives due to terrorists hijacking airplanes and crashing them into public buildings in New York City and Washington D.C., while another plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

September 11th is a day that will never be forgotten in the United States. On December 18, 2001, the United States government made an amendment to the United States Code in order to forever memorialize September 11th every year as Patriot Day. In the amendment, all local governments in the United States must recognize the day, all flags must be at half-staff, and Americans will be asked to observe a moment of silence for the people that were lost in the tragedy.
